For the Bees

Updated: Sep 6, 2021

If you have not heard about the declining bee population, you have probably been living under a rock. You may wonder why this is significant and may not care about taking steps to help the bee population. However, without bees, human survival would be in peril.

Why bees are important

Bees are extremely important to the ecosystem because they are pollinators. What that means to humans is they are responsible for plants growing. If we don't have plants growing, we don't have food sources. Bees also create honey; and beeswax (created by melting honey combs) is important in all natural products such as lotion bars.

What you can do

  1. Avoid using harmful chemicals and insecticides on your lawn and in your garden. Opt for more natural sources such as compost.

  2. Plant pollinating flowers outside. This is especially useful to you if you have a garden because the bees will cross-pollinate the garden for you.

  3. Create a bee bath. Have a bird bath and place stones large enough to break the surface of the water. Make sure that the water is clean. The bees will land on the rocks and drink from the water.

  4. Plant a tree. Honey bees can build hives in trees and other species of bees eat the nectar from trees and use tree resin to build their homes.
