Sustainable Clothing

Updated: Sep 6, 2021

A lot of clothing is created using unethical sources and results in a lot of pollution. Some common practices in the clothing industry include low pay and poor working conditions. In order to break that cycle, it is necessary to make informed purchasing conditions.

Other factors you can consider when making purchasing decisions is the source of the materials of clothing that you buy. Recycled wool, cotton, and polyester significantly reduce the amount of water and other resources that are wasted in the production process for clothing. Recycled polyester is actually made from recycled plastics and other companies have come up with even more unique and interesting sources such as the recycled coffee jeans produced by American Eagle.

Another thing you might want to consider is purchasing pre-owned clothing. Even if you don't like searching through the racks at Goodwill or the Salvation Army, you can look in consignment shops which will have a higher price tag, but are much more selective about which clothing items they sell.

When spring cleaning and going through your own closet, donating or selling clothing on consignment are both good options. There are also other ways to reuse your clothing, such as the tee-shirt reusable totes.
