As I have mentioned once or twice before, composting is one of the easiest ways to benefit the environment is through composting. You can significantly decrease the amount of waste produced by your household through composting, and it is a virtually effortless way to conduct your own recycling at home.
However, for many different food scraps, you can create all-purpose cleaners and natural beauty products. These products are easy to create and use and can significantly reduce the amount you pay for products at the store.
I recommend re-using certain items, such as spray bottles and containers to hold the items you create, so that will also decrease your costs. I use glass jars that I have cleaned out from other items, such as salsa and pickles, to store the products I make because they have to sit for an extended period of time.
All Purpose Cleaner
Making all purpose cleaner is extremely easy. All you need is white vinegar, citrus peels, and a jar. Place the citrus peels in a jar and fill it with vinegar. Then cover and leave it sit for a month. After that time is up, simply filter the liquid and place it in an empty spray bottle, then fill the rest of the spray bottle with water. This all purpose cleaner is excellent for your kitchen, bathroom, or any other area of your home you want to disinfect.
Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple cider vinegar is another thing that you can make at home with very little effort and cost. I use ACV for both my skin and hair. Making ACV at home is extremely easy and requires only three ingredients: apple scraps (cores/peels), sugar, and water. Place the scraps from your apples in a jar, add 1 tablespoon of sugar, and fill the jar with water. Then leave the jar in a cabinet covered with a paper towel for a month. After the month, remove the paper towel and stir the liquid. You can continue to let it sit after this point, or strain the liquid and use your ACV for any purpose you desire. Combining ACV and water makes a very good-for-your-skin, all natural astringent. ACV combined with nettle powder and lavender (plus extra water) makes a very good natural hair rinse.
