I know what you might be thinking: this blog has nothing to do with electronics. Why would she be writing about electronics? Well, it's not in the way you may expect.
On average is takes 400 gallons of water to make a single computer. The idea of buying used electronics may not thrill you. Who wants someone else's cast offs? But, there is a major upside to buying used and refurbished electronics.
One advantage of purchasing used and refurbished electronics is that doing so is a significant environmental advantage because of all of the water you are not using from the purchase of a new computer/smartphone/etc.
Another advantage which everyone can appreciate is the price. It is much cheaper to purchase electronic devices which have been previously owned. When you purchase refurbished products, the difference is almost imperceptible from purchasing a new model.
This same concept can be applied to almost anything you buy every day: clothing, shoes, cars, appliances, etc. All have a secret environmental cost which is not worth paying. Many older items were built to last longer and are easier to fix when they are broken.
The concept of "keeping up with the Joneses" is dated and harmful. The next time you are in the market for anything, consider all of your options and try to make a more conscientious decision for yourself, your finances, and your planet.
